Chapter 1: Ground floor

Chapter 2: Graffiti Staircase

This staircase is one of the best-preserved elements from the Tacheles era, still bearing layers of graffiti on the walls and ceiling above.

Chapter 3: WWII

Parts of the building and its basement were flooded, and a major fire severely damaged the structure – though it ultimately remained standing.

Chapter 4: Division of Berlin

Following the war and the division of Berlin, the building found itself within the Soviet sector, later becoming part of East Berlin

Chapter 5: Tacheles Collective

After the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9th, 1989, a group of artists started occupying the building in February 1990 and founded Project Tacheles.

Chapter 6: Fotografiska Berlin

Fotografiska, from the Swedish for “photographic”, is the contemporary museum for photography, art, and culture.
