75 Years German Photographic Society (DGPh)

As part of its 75th anniversary, the German Photographic Society (DGPh) invites you to an evening exploring photography today and its potential for tomorrow.

Panel Talk: Photography Today – Tomorrow?

The evening opens with a panel discussion hosted by Ruediger Glatz. The conversation explores how photography is changing across artistic practice, institutions, and the market. From new technologies and evolving forms of image-making to questions of authorship and memory, the panel looks at where the medium stands today – and where it might be heading next.

Photo Slam: Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday

The panel is followed by a Photo Slam presenting selected works from the DGPh’s worldwide open call Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday, in which the present becomes the raw material for tomorrow’s memory.

A renowned international jury, including Kathy Ryan, former Director of Photography at The New York Times Magazine, selected the series from around 200 submissions that will be displayed on the large LED wall in the Ballroom.

About the host

Ruediger Glatz is an artist, photographer and founder of BALD BOOKS and BALDHAUS. His practice uses the camera as a tool for understanding, combining documentary and performative approaches. His long-term collaborations include Tilda Swinton and Olivier Saillard. He is also co-founder of COLLEKTON, a digital infrastructure for the art market. As Chairman of the Executive Board of the DGPh, he leads the society through its 75th anniversary year.

About the speakers

Claire Ducresson-Boët

Claire is an Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska Berlin. She holds a PhD in art history, specializing in the history of photography. Her research examines the afterlife of images – how they persist, reappear, and evolve through circulation, recontextualization, and remediation. As a member of the Berlin-based collective analogueNOW, she actively advocates for analog photography in the city. 

Verena Brüning

Verena Brüning is a Berlin based photographer working across portrait and reportage, with a focus on sustainability, feminism and social engagement. She studied photography at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and has worked for international magazines, newspapers, companies, agencies and NGOs. Her work is regularly exhibited internationally. In 2024, her photobook Windsbraut was published by März Verlag and the series received the international Daylight Photo Award.

Boris Eldagsen

Boris Eldagsen is a Berlin based photomedia artist whose work explores the unconscious mind. His photographic and video works have been shown internationally in galleries, institutions and festivals. In 2023, he gained global attention after refusing a Sony World Photography Award for his AI generated work The Electrician, arguing that AI images are not photography and proposing the term “promptography”. Today, he is a sought after speaker on AI and creative image making.

Stephan J. Schulz

Stephan J. Schulz has spent his career at the intersection of photographic technology and the market. After roles at Philips Semiconductors, Pentax, Thomson and TCL Thomson, he joined Leica Camera AG in 2007, where he led Professional Camera Systems until 2024. He shaped the strategy and development of Leica’s S and SL systems and played a key role in the L Mount Alliance. He is a DGPh member and has served on its Executive Board since 2024.
