Join Fotografiska Berlin for our very first film screening presented by KILOWATT and SYNERGIE. As we slide into spooky season, we’re showcasing two films that look at societal issues through the lens of the body horror genre, which is famous for using our own bodies to reflect our creepiest fears.
The first film, the short CHOMP IT! (12 min) (https://youtu.be/w9hRCXzvaag?feature=shared) from Singaporean duo Mark Chua and Lam Li Shuen, tells the tale of two crocodile men who seek refuge in a swimming pool in a tropical paradise. An allegory of life in Singapore, the film was officially selected for this year’s International Film Festival Rotterdam.
The second movie of the evening is the Malaysian feature film Tiger Stripes (95 min) (https://youtu.be/Q7lu0KoD5so?feature=shared) by Amanda Nell Eu. The story of a girl who experiences more-than-unsettlingly transformations during puberty, it’s a stellar instalment in the pantheon of feminist body horror films such as Ginger Snaps and Titane.
