Future Ancestry: Artist Talk & Performance
Josèfa Ntjam and Eli Cortiñas in conversation with Nóra Ó Murchú, followed by Justin Kennedy’s performance, "Sign ov' the Times"
Artists Josèfa Ntjam and Eli Cortiñas are both exhibited at Fotografiska during Berlin Art Week 2024, with Futuristic Ancestry: Warping Matter and Space-time(s) and The Machine Monologs, Part I: The Storm. Our official Berlin Art Week program features an engaging discussion with the two artists, moderated by the artistic director of Transmediale, Nóra Ó Murchú. The discussion focuses on fluid and ecofeminist visions of the future and a critical engagement with technology.
Following the talk, renowned dancer and entertainer Justin Kennedy will present one of his authored performances: "Sign ov' the Times." This choreography intertwines dance, vocals and music to explore themes of oceanic embodiment (Tidalectics) and Caribbean folklore through an ecocritical lens. This surrealist dance opera, supported by ambient psychedelic sound and lyrics, delves into representations of mermaids and zombies and the multiple metaphors these figures hold across cultures and diasporas.
