Free public opening

Close up of a nude female body with Iranian texts over her

Join us on 7 March 2024, from 18:00–23:00 for the free public opening of The Fury by Shirin Neshat. Be one of the first to see the new exhibition at Fotografiska Berlin.

About the exhibition

Through her stunningly stark black and white photographs and video work, the show sheds on the lived realities of sexually exploited female political prisoners in the Republic of Iran.

Throughout her esteemed career, Neshat has always grappled with the intricacies of the female body in Islamic cultures. Her work navigates this terrain as a contested space, encompassing themes of sin, shame, violence, repression, rebellion, power, and protest.

The video installation featured in The Fury depicts a highly fictionalized and stylized representation of the life of a female political prisoner after experiencing sexual assault and torture. This searingly emotional work shows a journey of reckoning, and confronts the female body as both an object of desire and scene of violence.
