The Role of Educators and Teachers – Talk

Accompanying the exhibition Social Studies by Lauren Greenfield, Fotografiska Berlin and FAQ Health present a talk series examining how social media shapes our lives. Discussions will focus on identity, self-worth, mental health, and the ways we navigate digital spaces.

This edition focuses on the role of teachers and educators in supporting young people as they navigate an increasingly complex digital world. Together with Herr Reff (Mr. Reff), ethics teacher and author of Der Stärkere hört zu, Jana Krüger, Chief of Staff at F/A/Q, discusses the importance of respect, empathy and truly listening in the classroom. Together they explore how trust and a strong classroom community can help encounter exclusion and cyberbullying.

The conversation also examines how social media shapes young people’s lives – from comparison and peer pressure to cyberbullying – and how schools can help foster media literacy, mutual responsibility and a more respectful environment.

Following the talk, Herr Reff will sign copies of his book Der Stärkere hört zu available for purchase on site.

About the speaker

Herr Reff teaches ethics at a secondary school in Berlin in a challenging social environment. What sets him apart as an educator is his own background: with a migration history and experience as a former “problem student,” he connects with young people on an equal footing. He became known through social media (@HerrReff), where he has built a large community across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Twitch. Through authentic insights into his everyday life, a clear perspective and plenty of humor, he offers an approachable and engaging view of education and school life.

About the Moderator

Jana Krüger, Chief of Staff at F/A/Q, leads the development of educational programs. For the past six years, she has worked directly with young people, training them as Health Ambassadors and supporting Gen Z in making informed health decisions based on respect, trust and open dialogue.
