© "Adorning the Self" is a project by photographer Jakob Tillmann and creative director Joachim Schirrmacher for the jewelry trade show INHORGENTA MUNICH. It was adapted for Fotografiska Berlin by Marina Paulenka, Head of the Exhibition Department, and Marie-Luise Mayer, Project Manager Emerging Berlin. The exhibition was conceived in collaboration with the artist and produced in friendly cooperation with our photography print partner WhiteWall.

In Adorning The Self (2024) Berlin-based photographer Jakob Tillmann captures the many ways in which people wear jewelry in intimate and thought-provoking portraits. His photographic approach invites viewers to reflect on the deeper meanings behind adornment, offering a fresh perspective on how these personal symbols shape our interactions with the world.

Adorning The Self captures the tension between tradition and personal interpretation, highlighting jewelry’s ability to both express individuality and forge connections to broader cultural narratives. With his eye for detail and the sensitive portrayal of his subjects, Tillmann challenges convention and celebrates the beauty of individuality.

This exhibition is part of our Emerging Berlin talent program, supporting photographers at the early stages of their careers.
