Miles Aldridge
Virgin Mary. Supermarkets. Popcorn. Photographs 1999-2020
British photography legend Miles Aldridge has made a long and illustrious career out of pulling the veil off of society's conventions. Using a visual style full of vibrant colors, intricate set design, and signature dark British wit, Aldridge is known to bridge the gap between high art and pop culture. Now, his retrospective Virgin Mary. Supermarkets. Popcorn. Photographs 1999 to 2020, curated by Nadine Barth, is arriving at Fotografiska Berlin.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Awash in his trademark detailed mise-en-scenes, Virgin Mary. Supermarkets. Popcorn. Photographs 1999-2020 is the largest collection of Aldridge's work, over 80 photographs including pieces from "(after Cattelan)" (in collaboration with artist Maurizio Cattelan) and his "Immaculée" series, which depicts modern-looking models as religious figures. Portraits of cultural mavericks like Donatella Versace and Ralph Fiennes are also present, inhabiting Aldridge's slightly surreal, always enticing world. The mark of a true visionary, Aldridge is always able to bend the reality he photographs to fit into his larger-than-life perspective.
